Indoor Market Workshop Tuesday 1st and Wednesday 2nd of November

Right then! Tuesday and Wednesday mark our first project this academic year in the form of a full 2 days of craft workshops involving Banner Making, Poster Making, Zine making and of course lots of stuffed felt creatures. Come down and get involved!

There will be a fine unruly pack of skilled artists and crafts folk there to help you put together something creative for your own sense of wellbeing and fun.

We also have the pleasure of welcoming Mr Jonny Wilkinson, Zine maker extroardinnaire, and if you dont know what a zine is its short for 'Fanzine' which is an independant publication either binded or folded together yourself to form a small book full of stuff you like, dislike or just want to talk about, draw, paint or inform others about. Traditionally zines are easily replicable and extremely cheap!

The workshops run from 9:30am until 4pm on Tuesday the 1st and Wednesday the 2nd of November.

This workshop has been together with Leeds Love Arts Mental Health festival and so the day is about making stuff yourself and feeling good about it.

So come down, make something and feel good about it.

See you there!

Leeds Active Arts Felt Workshop at Vintage Revival Fair in Kendal

Leeds Active Arts enjoyed a trip to Kendal last weekend to provide a felt workshop at a Vintage event in the town hall. The event itself was very busy and many families were at the event. The stall attracted children who got involved in our workshop by making felt animals and monsters. Promoting craft making in hands on way. We really enjoyed ourselves and here are some pictures from the day.

Thanks very much to the organizers of Vintage Revival for hosting are active arts stall, we hope to get involved again.

Hazel and Ruby sat for hours making there little foxes which turned out really well

Robert Made made a man in a dinosaur creature, designed by Chris Luk

Ben had lots of imagination and created this monster that he 'made as he went along'

Jonny created a little lizard which he sold to a lady who fell in love.

Jacob created Whiplash his teenage ninja mutant turtle.

I would just like to say a big Thank you Johnny for the lift and Kat and Elouise for getting stuck in on the day much obliged. Thanks again.

Just DO IT!!!

The world of environmental direct action has remained a secretive one, until now!

Just Do It lifts the lid on climate activism and the daring troublemakers who have crossed the line to become modern-day outlaws. Documented over a year, Emily James' film follows these activists as they blockade factories, attack coal power stations and glue themselves to the trading floors of international banks despite the very real threat of arrest.

Leeds Active Arts at Remade Leeds working with Jade Smith

Info
Fashion researcher Jade Smith was looking for participants for her PhD project which is looking to understand clothing purchasing and disposal habits.

Jade ran a craft workshop on Tuesday 4th October to allow members of Active Arts to learn more about her research and consider whether we would be interested in participating in her research.

Embroidery       The first technique we learnt was embroidery,

Joe came along to get involved, had lots of amazing contacts and ideas

Sinny learn't embroidery through the process of using a stencil tracing
technique. Very Pretty and easy to do, its as simple as tracing a
shape and then sewing into the marks made.

Finger
Knitting
Finger knitting consisted of making a chain out of reused material through a process that only takes the use of you guessed it your fingers. It was a really simple and easy to use process once you got your head round it. Check out you tube for self instructional videos. It'd a good way of reusing materials and making awesome necklaces.

A special thanks to Jade Smith for choosing Active Arts to be apart of this workshop. Thanks to new members of Active Arts for coming along and as ever the original members for carrying taking part in this group.

More workshops to get involved with very soon
