The Craft Stalls

Throughout the day families came along and got involved with are Interactive Stalls, the church was a great atmosphere and had enough space for people to get crafty and feel relaxed. 

Thanks To Kat and Loti for running the Face painting stall which was very popular with the kids as well as the Adults, from Spider-man to flowers and tigers, people were defiantly getting in to it!

The craft & Zine stall was a great Success, we roughly made £80, selling local artists work. We had everything from Hand made books, Zines and Hand crafted Bracelets. The stall also sold one off prints and our felt creatures. I would like to thank Pauline, Jake, Garry and Bianca For manning the stall. And to all the local Artists who contributed work to sell.

I would like to give out a massive thanks to Claire, Katy and Fran, for selling there unique jewellery ranging from, beautiful hand made wooden brooches, to awesome animal necklaces and keyrings. 

The peg making stall ran by Tasha Simpson and co, consisted of a chance for children and adults to come and get a bit sticky by making there very own pegs.

The Cake stall ran by Elouise & Lauren and co made lovely cakes and sold lots of personal gifts ranging from home made bags and publications. 

The Felt stall was run by Active Artists Tom. Katie and Claire, a range of outcomes came about, 

including the templates designed by Tom Woodland. 

Henna and Hair braiding was also available.

Rising Sun In Aid of Japan - 15th May 2011

Chain Reaction a Bike powered Sounds system was used to power the Music - 

We spent all day taking turns to power the sound-system, it was great to be green and kept us all warm in the cold church. I would like to personally thank Chain Reaction for keeping up momentum even when we had technical difficulties. 

Rising Sun In Aid of Japan - 15th May 2011

Rising Sun in aid of Japan, was a fundraiser organised by - Subconscious Arts & Leeds Active Arts in association with Satyagraha. The event was held a Left Bank Church on Cardigan Road from 12 - 12.

The Overall Out come was that we raised £1500 which will be donated to The British Red Cross & Shelter Box, and made contacts with the student and Japanese Communities of Leeds.

Andy Joy - To Knit or Knot

Andy Joy did a performance art piece that was aimed at trying to get people involved with building a huge dream catcher and allowing people to interact with a suit case of knitting needles and wool. I went to this at the Leeds Met as she is a freind of mine and enjoyed myself, it was a nice way to spend the afternoon. The tree in the corner is called the "bong tree" it took one woman seven years to crochet and hangs on a garden umbrella. Impressive I reckon. Just a few ideas there anyway.

Three Colour Rule

We want all you illustrators to take part in a Leeds based exhibition Called Three Colour Rule in an amazing new venue…Vox Warehouse. The exhibition will be taking place on one night in June and we have already started taking submissions. Please join us and get involved! Don’t worry if your not local either we would love a wider range of people. 

The Criteria for submissions is simple, your illustrations must be three colours (you can use mid tones of colours as well) White and black do count as colours, however if you are printing on a white background and it is not part of your illustration, that’s ok. There are also some titles you can work from on the facebook page.

The deadline for the exhibition is the 20th of May 2011. Hope to see something form you all.

Active Arts - getting Ready for the rising sun event

Preparations are undergoing in making things for The Rising sun event- Active Arts are organising the craft and interactive stalls for the event.

Katie Broadley a member of active arts has used Active Arts for her collaborating project and exhibition for college.
She represented what Active Arts is all about in a form of a poster. The poster shows us working within a group as a team, raising awareness and money for charity and having fun whilst doing it!

Well done to Katie for promoting Active Arts in her Art practice.

Leeds Active Arts - ReMade Leeds - Water Banner making workshop

ReMADE in Leeds ran a really exciting campaign this Spring - 'ReMade's Water Month' which has highlighted some of the key issues around water and sustainability, through a fun and hands on banner workshop.

On the 4th of May 20 Active Artists got together in a night of tea drinking, craft making and chit chatting about the sustainability of water. 

Our aims for the session was to complete a Banner explaining our opinions and experiences with water.

The workshop space was amazingly inspiring in making our Banners. We had endless blue materials, buttons and nic nacs to create our patch for the banner.. 

We learnt new skills such as, knitting, croquet, sewing, embroidery, and rag rugging..

Biscuits and Tea, standard necessity 

The Active Arts group had to fill in a online questionnaire about our relationship and experiences with water.

Later on we had wine and music, we were really trying to finish our patches in time.

The Rising Sun - Aid for Japan - SUBCONSCIOUS ARTS & Leeds ActiveARTS

The Rising Sun - Aid for Japan
The catastrophic earthquake and resulting tsunami that struck Japan on March 11th 2011 have caused widespread destruction and suffering. We have an affinity with Japanese culture, and have been very moved by the event. Consequently we are organising a non-profit, charitable event to raise funds to provide for the ongoing crisis currently affecting Japan.

Presented by SUBCONSCIOUS ARTS and LEEDS ACTIVE ARTS, the event will held at Left Bank Leeds, Cardigan Road, Leeds, LS6 1LJ on Sunday 15th May 2011 The all day event will start at 12:00PM

The proceeds from the event will be spread equally between the British Red Cross Japan Tsunami appeal and Shelter Box; a Cornwall-based international disaster relief charity. The donation to Shelter Box will assist people in need around the world, not only those in Japan...so we still feel this is a worthwhile cause.

In addition, we have confirmation that all funds raised will be matched pound for pound by HSBC. With the addition of gift aid at 25% this would mean for every pound raised, an extra £2.50 will go to charity!! (Thank you to HSBC for this generous donation)

We currently have over £600 worth of donated items ranging from jewellery, canvases, prints, restaurants & cafe vouchers, pieces from vintage stores, beauty products, posters and much, much more. These items will be auctioned at the event. (Thank you to everyone who has donated items so far!)

At present, we can confirm the following acts:

• Vid Warren (Instrumental Beatboxer) - From instrumental-beatboxing to cool dark grooves, Vid Warren brings you some of the freshest performance out there, bass heavy sounds that you wouldn't believe a human-mouth could make. You may have seen Vid Warren on festival stages including Glade, WOMAD, The Secret Garden Party, The Big Chill, Lovebox and Electric Picnic.
• The Sick Men of Europe - A 3 piece, gin drinking, basement dwelling outfit from Leeds. Inspired by the lo-fi sounds of early blues and jazz, garage punk noises, and old fashioned rock and roll.
• Sumie - An authentic Japanese koto player whom performs wearing the traditional kimono attire. Expect to hear soothing and beautiful melodies.

THE RISING SUN - This all day and night event will be a celebration of art, music and creativity. It is going to be fun, buzzing and exciting! We want to create a lively, busy atmosphere where there's plenty to do, see, make, talk about and enjoy!

Papergirl Leeds Exhibition! 8th - 17th April at TestSpace Leeds

Following on from our previous post on Papergirl Leeds, Laura has been busy collecting artwork and sorting out submissions ready for the Papergirl Leeds debut exhibition! There has been some amazing artwork sent in and the exhibition is sure to be an awesome collection of various artworks.

Every single piece of work submitted will be shown in the Papergirl Leeds Exhibition, held at TestSpace Leeds on Melbourne Street. The opening night is Friday 8th April and the exhibition will run until Sunday 17th April.

After the exhibition, all submitted work will be carefully rolled up and distributed to the unsuspecting public by Papergirls (and boys!) on bicycles at the Papergirl Leeds Ride Event.

See the exhibition and join Papergirl Leeds for the opening night party on Friday 8th April! It will be at TestSpace Leeds on Melbourne Street, Leeds.

From 5pm onwards, there will be delicious cakes and teas from The Marvellous Tea Dance Company, installations, live art work and crafting, as well as an interactive photobooth event!
